This page features bead and jewellery related classes that I know of, that are running in London.

Wirework Class | Saturday, 13th March 2010 | 10am - 4.30pm
Kentish Town Congregational Church

Wirework is an incredibly popular and satisfying method of making jewellery. With a few basic techniques, and lots of tips, you will soon be able to make bead and wire jewellery in whatever style you prefer.

This class will cover all of the basic techniques you need as well as giving you the opportunity to try different tools. After finishing the day you will be able to follow any wirework pattern you find in a magazine or book as well as design your own pieces. On the day there will also be lots of finished pieces of jewellery to see and discuss for inspiration.

The day will cover:

Turned and wrapped loops Joining sections Adding beads Using jump rings Making head and eye pins Forming heart and other wire shapes- Flat coils Hammering your work to add texture and change the hardness Using a wig-jig Wire tubes- both by hand and with a wire-winder Using chains Designing jewellery and much more!

You will leave the class having completed a bracelet and two pair of earrings as well as lots of samples of everything covered on the day.

The class includes:

Sterling Silver wire. Sterling Silver jump rings. Sterling Silver clasp. Sterling Silver chain. Sterling Silver earring findings. Three different types of beads for the bracelet and earrings. A coil bound book covering all you have learnt on the day.

Crochet Wire Jewellery with beads... Level 1, Beginners | Saturday, 20th March 2010 | 10.30am- 4.30pm

Learn to crochet gorgeous jewellery with wire and beads - make a necklace in a day - wear it home on the bus!
Suitable for beginners and intermediates - small classes allow individual help.
Learn all the skills & techniques to carry on at home... Learn how to:  - cast-on stitches, - make a foundation chain, - add in beads, - add stitch variations, - make customised fastenings and finish your piece professionally.

Viking Weave Class | Saturday, 10th April 2010 | 10am - 4.30pm
Kentish Town Congregational Church

Viking Weave is an incredible technique that's both easy to master and satisfying to finish!

The class will cover all of the basics of the technique as well as extras such as turning it into finished pieces and adding embellishments.

As the finished project may not be completed in class, as well as containing all you will need to make a finished necklace, the class kit also has everything you will need to finish your piece at home and go onto make further pieces.

The class includes:

Over 15 metres of Sterling Silver wire in two different thicknesses (worth over £20). Copper wire. Sterling Silver end cones and clasp. Dowel. A hand-made wooden drawn plate. A coil bound book including everything covered on the day.

Chain Maille Chains Class | Saturday, 8th May 2010 | 10am - 4.30pm
Kentish Town Congregational Church

A day spent learning how to make these beautiful chains using jump rings.

Ideal as pieces of jewellery by themselves, or embellished with beads, the chains can also be used for straps for bags or purses.

As well as covering the basics of chain maille, the day will consist of exploring six different chains and many variations on them. The chains we cover are:

Loop in loop Twisted/ flower chains Clover-leaf (this is a chain invented by me and therefore not available elsewhere) Byzantine Box Plus a surprise one as a reward for the end of the day!

We will also look at different ways of using the chains and combining them with other bead or wire-work.

The class includes:

A booklet covering all you will have learnt on the day

No experience is necessary to attend this class. Jump rings are the only supply you need for the day and I will have a range of these for sale, starting at just £1 a bag. Tools are available for your use on the day-you can turn up with nothing!

Ending It All Class- A Guide To Stringing And Finishing Your Jewellery | Saturday, 12th June 2010 | 10am - 4.30pm

This class looks at creating and finishing the perfect piece of jewellery or beadwork.

The day will cover:

Using memory wire Using beading elastic Stringing- what material or technique to choose? Stringing with thread and knotting Using gimp/ French wire Using end caps and cones Using flexible beading wire and crimping Using cord with knots and cord endings As well as some basic wirework techniques to use when finishing your work

You'll also have the opportunity to try out findings, stringing materials etc. you may not have used before- and learn the best ways to use them. 

The class includes:

A fun class where you'll learn all about how to make your own felt beads and then embellish them.

The class will cover all the basics of felt-making (including items other than beads) along with some thread and bead embroidery techniques so you can jazz up your new creations.

This class will cover the versatile herringbone stitch in all its variations, including; flat, circular, tubular, spiralled and with inclusions.

Suitable for all levels of beader you will leave with a full knowledge of the stitch as well as instructions for finished designs using its variations.

Herringbone is a great, versatile stitch which can be used for many different styles of jewellery, vessels or flowers. All of these will be covered on the day.
